Guidelines for Emails to all INFO Electronic Mailing Lists
Following the UMD Policy on Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources, College of Information electronic mailing lists and listservs are intended only for communications related to the normal professional, academic, administrative, or student activities of the College.
This page identifies the moderator for each mailing list, where applicable.
The following types of messages generally may not be distributed through College mailing lists:
- Messages unrelated to the core professional, academic, administrative, or student functions of the College
- Messages that attack, harass, or disparage individuals or groups, or primarily express personal or political opinions unrelated to College business
- Defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate content, as determined by the list moderator or College administration
- Advertisements for products or services, commercial solicitations, spam, chain letters, jokes, memes, or similar non-business content
- Anonymous messages or messages sent under a false or misleading identity
To reduce list traffic, replies intended only to congratulate or thank an individual should be sent directly to that person rather than to the mailing list.
Individuals who misuse College mailing lists or violate these guidelines may have their posting privileges restricted or removed at the discretion of the moderator or College administration.
