Hiring for Summer 2025

The College of Information seeks an undergraduate student employee to work at our Service Desk during summer 2025. This position may be extended to the 2025-2026 academic year depending upon funding and performance.

The College of Information uses a pooled student employee model, where student employees are assigned to primary units but use their downtime to support other units. The Service Desk where this position is located primarily supports the IT, Facilities and Events units.

Duties

  • Receiving and assisting visitors to the Service Desk.
  • Supporting the use of technology in classrooms, collaborative workspaces, event spaces, and offices.
  • Receiving and delivering packages and mail to our offices in Hornbake, Patuxent, and AV Williams.
  • Supporting office packing and minor moves.
  • Assisting with running events and with event space setup and breakdown.
  • General administrative functions including administrative tasks, office organization, inventory control, and writing documentation.
  • Providing support for pooled administrative projects from other units.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to learn professionally valuable skills in IT support and workplace communication.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current UMCP undergraduate student enrolled in six (6) credits or more during fall and spring majoring in a bachelor’s degree offered by the College of Information.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in learning, basic multimedia, AV, networking, computer (hardware and software), and peripheral functionality.
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently, organize tasks and information, and offer proactive solutions.

Physical Demands

Work is conducted in office environments in on-campus buildings, and it requires the ability to travel throughout the campus. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and move items between locations.

Salary and Schedule

$15 per hour for up to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 6 PM, for summer 2025.
